The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was a unique model of mercy, respect, and justice in his treatment of women — whether they were mothers, wives, daughters, or believers within the community. He never regarded them as inferior, unlike common views in the pre-Islamic era. Instead, he elevated their status, guaranteed their rights, and taught his companions how to honor them.
At home, he was the kindest and most gentle of people. He never raised his hand against a woman or servant. He helped with household tasks and showed tenderness and consideration in every detail of family life.
With his daughters, he displayed great affection and deep respect. Whenever Fatimah came in, he would stand for her, kiss her, and seat her in his place. He said she was a part of him. This attitude highlights the importance of daughters in Islam and shows that fatherly love is a sign of nobility, not weakness.
With women in general, he showed humility and respect. Even a simple woman or servant could approach him in the street, and he would never refuse to listen or attend to her needs. He saw this not as a waste of time but as an act of human greatness.
Even when faced with anger or tensions from some women, he responded with patience, forgiveness, and wisdom. This did not mean he lacked character; on the contrary, he knew when to be firm and when kindness was better.
He also taught his community the importance of treating women well. He said the best among you is the best to his family, and he presented himself as the best to his wives. Thus, he linked a man’s moral worth to how he treats the women around him.
For the Prophet ﷺ, women were not a burden, but a strength, a pillar of the home and society. He encouraged their education, dignity, and participation in religious and social life.
